The Corpus Christi Caller Times archives from June 3, 2005, contain a story which illustrates a key problem with our current city council:

Potholes seem to have become the city’s universal symbol for many drivers. But unlike the city’s other emblems, the seagull and the dolphin, the pothole is an unwelcome guest, each contributing to a costly toll.

A national transportation group has now determined what many of us have assumed to be true, that bad roads in Corpus Christi hit us in the pocketbook.... The Road Information Project (TRIP), a Washington, D.C.-based transportation research group, issued a recent report indicating Corpus Christi ranks at the top of small cities for individual costs incurred by motorists because of bad roads.

The group calculated that Corpus Christi motorists spend an additional $529 annually because of rough road conditions. Those costs are accounted for in more car repairs, lost fuel efficiency and general wearand-tear that reduces a vehicle’s value.... The group used road maintenance data provided by individual states and the federal government to determine the overall quality of roads. It then calculated how much of a toll those roads have on repairs, fuel and wear…. It found only 24 percent of Corpus Christi roads were in good condition. The largest group of roads, 42 percent, were in poor condition.

Our deadwood city council leaders DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE PEOPLE'S PROBLEMS! They just want to protect the crony special interest favors. We MUST reject the deadwood on our city council seeking re-election (Melody Cooper, Jerry Garcia) and the stooges backed by the same cronies seeking to replace the term-limited losers (James Chrobocinski, Nelda Martinez, Kendra Kinneson, James Duerr, Sandy Billish, Norm Baker).

We need candidates who will focus on the people's problems, not the real estate developers' crony business favors.

We MUST Elect a Better City Council!

Here in Corpus Christi, our City Council has put the desires of every special interest you can imagine ahead of the people who live here. We must reverse these backward priorities RIGHT NOW!

The City Council election is April 14.

There are three at large positions we must focus on as well as important races in districts 4 and 5. Here are the candidates:

AT LARGE -

Pete Alvarez (failed ex-police chief; failed sheriff candidate)

Arthur Brooks (wants to restore the long-lost nonpartisan role of the City Council)

James Chrobocinski (fought hard to give away our beach to foreign developers)

Melody Cooper (useless incumbent who tried to give away our beach; when people say “throw the bums out,” they are talking about her)

Jerry Garcia (another do-nothing incumbent who tried to give away our beach; he has also earned throw-the-bums-out treatment)

Mike Hummell (local Crime Control and Prevention District representative who fought hard to keep out beaches open)

Nelda Martinez (failed candidate for state representative; close political ties to no-good term-limited incumbent Rex Kinnison; close ties to realtor special interests)

DISTRICT 4 -

Norm Baker (banker, owner of a plastics company, real estate investor - no surprise that he favors increased industrialization; he has close political ties to perennial failed Republican candidate Joe McComb)

Sandy Billish (ex-insurance claims analyst with close political ties to corrupt ex-politician Gene Seaman)

James Duerr (he runs a propaganda mill that put out much of the false information favoring the failed beach give away; he was also responsible for paying hate-monger Ann Coulter to come speak in our city and has close political ties to corrupt ex-politicians Gene Seaman and Jaime Capelo)

Mike McCutchon (local doctor who helped keep our beach open; he sees “too much time spent by our city government on pet projects that the public does not embrace”)

Guy Watts (Del Mar College regent and president of the Texas Association of Community College Trustees)

Danny Williams (25 year old pizza delivery guy who would do a better job than Baker, Billish, or Duerr)

DISTRICT 5 -

Larry Elizondo (a manager at Citgo who wants to concentrate on fixing the city’s broken infrastructure)

Kendra Kinnison (a virtual incumbent, she’s married to the good-for-nothing term-limited incumbent, Rex Kinison, who fought hard to give away our beach)

Roy Pell (owner of Pell Simonelli Automotive - makes you wonder if he knows why Corpus Christi car owners pay an average of $529 a year on repair bills for pothole damage)
